Join artists Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope in a hands-on and muddy workshop as they recycle archaeological soil sample waste into a sustainable mud building material. Karen and Nina are in residence at the Department of Archaeology as part the University's North West Cambridge development. Inspired by participating in Cambridge Archaeology Unit's site dig, and by the models of the NW Cambridge architecture and town planning, they would like to experiment with the idea of a 3D model of the development. A large-scale model could be constructed from cob, a traditional building material made from clay and subsoil, and could eventually be buried beneath the finished development for - perhaps - rediscovery by the archaeologists of the future.
